The Allan Candy Company Limited Supports Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank

Mississauga, ON — The Allan Candy Company Limited held their inaugural Day of Service today at the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank (“DBFB”) where Allan Candy volunteers went to work in the DBFB’s warehouse sorting what amounted to over 11,500 pounds of food.

For the two weeks leading up to the Day of Service, Allan Candy conducted an office food drive in an effort to raise awareness of the hunger issues facing local communities. Allan Candy was able to amass a sizable donation of non-perishable food items to donate to DBFB at a time of year when food demands are highest.

“This has been an exceptional way to jumpstart the season of giving, while keeping alignment with The Allan Candy Company’s guiding principles to act collaboratively, celebrate teamwork and to contribute positively to the communities in which we work and live.” said Allan Candy President & CEO, Steve Diakowsky. “By supporting the DBFB through both the food donation, and by volunteering our time, we are supporting the goal of reducing hunger in the GTA, and contributing to making the lives of less fortunate Canadians a little easier this winter”.

The Daily Bread Food Bank is Toronto’s leader in the fight against hunger. Each month DBFB serves almost 80,000 people in the GTA through their network of 160 member agencies and over 190 food relief programs. The DBFB runs neighbourhood food banks where people come to access food hampers, as well as meal programs where people can access prepared meals such as soups or casseroles.
